VIOLION INTIATION Catherine Planet started playing the violin in Moncton (NB). The instrument was placed in her hands by the Acadian culture. She began with ten years in classical, both in Moncton, and later in the city of Sept-Îles (Qc.). Although she loves classical music, she naturally turned to improvisation, which led her to later accompany pop or folk-pop artists such as Yelo Molo, Guillaume Arseneault, Dany Placard, Éric Goulet, Lisa Leblanc, Sandra LeCouteur, etc. Loving sound research and spontaneity, she has also played for the Montreal Improvisation League (LIM) and the Montreal Musical Improvisation League (LIMM). She has also been involved in country rock with the Montreal group The Plain Old Dirt, in addition to recording for various other projects.
Since Moncton, traditional music has quietly crept into her path, and it was in adulthood that it really took its place in her repertoire, when Catherine became more and more interested in her roots. After returning in Louisiana for four years, she co-founded the group Rose Vagabond, a project mixing trad, Cajun and oldtime. Eternal student, she did a baccalaureate in Education (UQAM), then another in Jazz integrative music studies (Concordia). She also did master’s studies in Sociology (Louisiana) and Communications (UQAM), where she studied the impact of identity celebration on a community. This is how in 2014 she founded La Chasse-Balcon, a series of traditional concerts taking place on balconies, with the mission of forging links between neighbors and facilitating openness to others through the path of celebrations. The project is also behind Les Dimanches trad du Parc Maisonneuve, jam sessions held in the chalet of Maisonneuve Park, in Montreal, and whose music is broadcast outside to cheer up skaters, skiers and outdoor enthusiasts. . Private music teacher and in a primary school, Catherine is determined to transmit her art and her values, having the certainty that music can contribute to a happier society. Finally, passionate about writing, Catherine is also a singer-songwriter.
