For more than forty years, Normand Legault has seen himself as a researcher, teacher, step dancer, choreographer, but above all as an animator and “dance caller”, where he leads the evenings with a masterful hand. His studies in ethnology at Laval University lead him to travel through several regions of Quebec on the occasion of field investigations in the fields of song, music and dance where he has direct contact with tradition. His journey has led him to become involved in the development of many heritage organizations in Quebec, including the Conseil québécois du patrimoine vivant, ÈsTrad, CVPV and Danse Traditionnelle Québec. He occupies the professional scene by joining numerous occasions with musical ensembles during concerts, cultural events, festivals, traditional dance evenings and training courses. He travels through Quebec, Canada, the United States and Europe with this unique style that has made him one of the most respected specialists of his generation. He also participates in numerous productions in the field of publishing and recording. He won the bronze medal with À Pieds Levés in the Traditional Dances category at the 1997 Third Games of La Francophonie in Madagascar. In 2021, he obtained significant recognition as part of the Masters of Living Traditions Program put forward by the Conseil québécois du patrimoine vivant.
